Marketing Manager

This job description is intended to provide an outline of essential duties of this position.  It is not intended to cover all aspects of the position.  Duties may vary under the direction of the reporting supervisor and are subject to change at any time with or without prior notice at the discretion of the CRVA.

Reports To:  Sr. Director of Marketing & Visual Communications
Department:  CRVA – Marketing
Work Location:  Visit Charlotte
Work Schedule:  Schedule is based on work requirements.  Employee must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends. 
FLSA:  Exempt – Salaried
Status:  Full-Time
Supervises N/A

Purpose:
Promote Charlotte as a visitor destination with the objective of attracting overnight business as related to tourism/leisure; and promote Charlotte as a destination for conventions and meetings.

Professional Relationships
Includes but is not limited to:
o CRVA Executive Management
o Cohesive working relationship with the Website Manager, Graphic Designer and Marketing/Communications Manager.
o Tourism Department
o Other CRVA Staff Members
o Visit Charlotte Partners

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Promote Charlotte as a visitor destination with the objective of attracting overnight business as related to tourism/leisure; and promote Charlotte as a destination for conventions and meetings;
• Develop strategic media programs; negotiate advertising rates, value-added opportunities and cooperative advertising buys and execute the purchase of advertising space;
• Manage, track, evaluate and report return on investment for campaigns;
• Work closely with the tourism department to develop online packages; Instill a sense of collective energy within tourism community; ensure that efforts are proactive, effective and play a role in driving tourism in the Charlotte region;
• Assist in identifying market opportunities and developing short and long-term marketing strategies with the objective of attracting overnight business;
• Assist in building and sustaining tourism marketing programs that enhance image and drive visitation. Programs include, but are not limited to local marketing efforts, National Tourism Week etc.;
• Maintain a well-informed working knowledge of all Visit Charlotte partners;
• Maintain national, regional, state and local profile in travel industry through associations and committees;
• Sell advertising on charlottesgotalot.com; Solicit and assist Visit Charlotte partners selecting appropriate online advertising opportunities and marketing initiatives
• Business related local and distance travel during traditional and non-traditional work hours required – Local +/-10% and Distance +/- 10%

Standard Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintain professional attire, image and demeanor at all times.
• Attend all meetings and training sessions as required.
• Comply with CRVA policies, including facility policies in which the employee performs work.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Education & Training
o Bachelors Degree in Marketing or Communications preferred or the equivalent combination of related work experience and education; 
o Five (5) – Seven (7) years of experience developing strategic marketing ideas; negotiating and executing the purchase of traditional and online advertising
o Prior media buying/planning experience is an absolute requirement;
o Destination marketing and sales experience a plus;
o Requires strong negotiation skills, organizational and analytical skills, excellent written expression, oral comprehension, written comprehension, and deductive reasoning, creativity, idea generation, and a keen eye for detail;
o Some finance/contract/rates experience preferred, with ability to calculate rates, set terms, etc
o Must be a highly organized individual.
• Interpersonal Skills
o Must be service oriented, with a demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service;
o Excellent presentation and communication skills:
o Creative skills in regards to developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, and systems;
o Ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships;
o Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
