Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority Statement on Governor Cooper’s Recommendation on Mass Gatherings, Community and Social Events
We respect and understand the Governor’s guidance as a best practice effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the state, and have begun taking steps to implement the recommendation. We remain committed to doing what we can to provide for the wellbeing of our residents and visitors. Undoubtedly, this recommendation will have a significant impact on the Charlotte region’s visitor economy.
We are in the process of contacting our customers who have booked events, conferences, amateur and youth sports tournaments and similar gatherings in Charlotte to discuss the effect of this recommendation, and are working diligently to find alternative dates in hopes they can reschedule. The operational impacts to Bojangles’ Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium are still being evaluated.
Out of an abundance of caution and in the best interest and protection of our guests, team members and members, the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be closed to the general admission public beginning Saturday, March 14 through the end of the month.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame is a highly interactive attraction with dozens of high-touch exhibits throughout the facility. While we have implemented multiple precautionary measures in our facility, we also recognize public health experts have since recommended that one of the ways to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community is crowd avoidance.
We will be working on a case-by-case basis with the Hall’s event and group-related customers who are scheduled to visit between now and the end of the month to accommodate their needs. General admission tickets purchased in advance for this period will be honored at any other date. We will continue to monitor recommendations from public health experts and make decisions regarding NASCAR Hall of Fame operations beyond the end of the month, including general admissions operations for April.
