In 2020 the Bojangles Entertainment Complex (BOplex) completed the construction of a 35,000-square-foot connector facility bridging its two historic venues – Bojangles Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium. The addition includes hospitality space, new concession options, additional public restrooms, an artist corridor for performers and more.
Since opening as Charlotte’s first civic auditorium and dedicated sports and concert venue in 1955, the BOplex stages have held a wide range of shows – from Broadway tours and sporting events, to Elvis Presley and local graduations. As part of the upgrade process, the BOplex team worked closely with the landmark commission to preserve the Bojangles Coliseum's landmark status and history, ultimately integrating the existing mid-century modern aesthetic with modern conveniences and amenities.
On the patio outside the facility, visitors to the BOplex can find an art installation that highlights the iconic dome of the Bojangles Coliseum and features the names of performers and events that have been part of the BOplex’s storied history.
